Accredited Accounting Technician (AAT) Examination

Recognition and Advancement

The AAT qualification provides ample opportunities for career advancement and further studies.

HKIAAT membership

Students who have successfully completed the AAT Examination and Professional Assessment and have gained the prescribed work experience are eligible to apply as an Associate Member of the HKIAAT and can use the designation "AAT" after their names. Those who have been Associate Members for 5 years may apply as Fellow Member and can use the designation "Fellow AAT".

Memberships of UKAAT, AAT Australia and the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants

Under our Reciprocal Membership Agreements, members of the HKIAAT can apply for membership of UKAAT, AAT Australia and the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants' third college of accounting technicians.

Professional advancement

The Accounting Technician qualification is one of the pre-entry requirements (in addition to the completion of the Professional Bridging Examination, a Foundation Programme or an accounting degree accredited by the Institute) for registration as students of the Qualification Programme of the HKICPA.

Academic progression

The Open University of Hong Kong

AAT graduates are eligible for an advanced standing of 55 credits for entry to the BBA (Hons) in Accounting and other programmes offered by the Open University of Hong Kong Lee Shau Kee School of Business & Administration. Please click here for details.

Napier University

AAT graduates are eligible to apply for direct entry to the BA (Hons) Accounting (Hong Kong), a self-funded top-up degree programme offered in collaboration with SCOPE/CityU. It is also one of the accredited programmes of the HKICPA.

Career development

The NQF is recognized by the Civil Service Bureau for their appointments. AAT graduates may be considered as having the relevant accounting knowledge for appointment to the grades of Assistant Taxation Officer and Tax Inspector II.

*Apart from meeting the professional and academic requirements for the posts concerned, candidates also have to meet the language proficiency and other appointment requirements as specified for appointment to the respective posts.
