I am pleased to inform you that the HKICPA, our parent institute, has appointed the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland as the consultant to embark on a revamp project of the CPA qualifying process which encompasses the accounting technician qualification. The consultant team had very fruitful discussions with key stakeholders, including employers, faculty members, AAT students and PBE students, during their visit to Hong Kong in early July 2014. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the contributors. With your staunch support, I believe that the repositioned AAT qualification will continue to stand firm in the market. We will keep you posted on the latest developments.

Most accounting professionals regard the accrual basis as the best way to present a government’s financial picture. Despite widespread adoption, there are still many cash-basis holdouts – and even some reversals. This article talks about the pros and cons of both systems. +
