Information session for secondary school teachers  
Two information sessions to inform secondary school teachers about the ApL course “Practical Accounting for SMEs” were held on 23 and 29 April 2009. Secondary school experience of the ApL course  
With its student-oriented teaching rationale, Caritas Chai Wan Marden Foundation Secondary School launched the ApL course "Practical Accounting for SMEs” in 2007, in order to broaden its students’ learning horizons. Vice Principal Mr. Chiu Siu Kee notes that the course involves many accounting software workshops which make the learning process highly practical and interesting.+




 
Experience of a student on the ApL course    
Lo Chi Wah is a student of Cheung Chau Government Secondary School studying “Practical Accounting for SMEs”. He is also taking the “Principles of Accounts” course concurrently. Both subjects complement each other in ways which strengthen and consolidate Lo’s accounting knowledge. +

Event highlights  
Teachers’ Seminar on “Applying Business Cases to Promote Learning and Teaching of Business Subjects”
 
The HKIAAT and Education Bureau jointly organized this seminar on 25 May 2009 to assist school teachers of Business, Accounting and Financial Studies (BAFS) to teach the subject with real case materials. The MTR Corporation Limtied, the company selected for the Accounting and Business Management Case Competition 2008-09, was used as a case study to illustrate how real case materials can be adopted in teaching BAFS. The seminar was well attended by more than 250 teachers and the audience found it to be extremely useful. Click here for more details.

Although many accounting students dream about working for a large accounting and audit firm, some choose to serve in a non-governmental organization (NGO). This is not only for altruistic reasons: career prospects and exposure to scalable community projects are also incentives. AAT Jessica Ho talks to us about how she has found success with her qualification at a NGO.+

This article provides tips for effective business writing, in particular on the ways of ensuring a smooth flow of ideas when writing (i.e. cohesion). Cohesion is the grammatical and/or lexical relationship between the different elements of a text. This can be more than using conjunctions, so read on to find out the means of achieving cohesion.+
